Meet Benson: the Cockapoo who stole Jonathan Bailey’s heart

Jonathan Bailey has made a name for himself thanks to his swoon-worthy roles on screen in shows like “Bridgerton” and movies like “Wicked,” but his star power hit new heights when he was named People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2025. That said, when the photoshoot hit the internet, we were even more interested in his adorably fluffy sidekick — his Cockapoo, Benson.

A star is born: how Jonathan Bailey met Benson

Benson — who was named after the small village in England that Jonthan grew up in —  started as the Bailey family dog, but things took a turn during the pandemic (a period of time when many of us found solace in furry friends). While the world was in lockdown, the British actor took in the family Cockapoo, and Benson wasted no time keeping Jonathan on his toes as a full-time pet parent.

As he told The Standard in 2021, “That was a real baptism of fire. He ate a sock. A full sock. It was a Muji sock. Stripy. And then it came up again three days later.” (We hope Jonathan has pet insurance!)

Life got a lot more exciting for the pair when Jonathan was crowned People’s “Sexiest Man Alive.” It’s a secret any person would be itching to share, but the actor joked that the only one he confided in was his four-legged best friend. And, in a nod to their unbreakable connection, the lucky pup even got to star in the magazine’s photoshoot with his famous dad — including one of the covers!

What kind of dog is Benson?

Benson is a Cockapoo, which is a mix of a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. This popular mixed breed is known for its sweet, outgoing personality, intelligence and soft, curly coat.

This particular mix often results in a dog who is playful but gentle, making them wonderful companions. It's no wonder that Benson is a cherished part of the actor’s life. With his shaggy, light-colored fur and bright eyes, Benson is the perfect companion for a busy life, always ready with a tail wag and a cuddle.
